RE: An Ordinance To Restrict Burning Of
Trash
THE VILLAGE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE VILLAGE OF CEDAR
GROVE DOES HEREBY ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
WHEREAS, the purpose of this Ordinance is to restrict the burning of
trash within the Village of Cedar Grove
NOW, THEREFORE, it is hereby ordained by the Village Board of
Trustees of the Village of Cedar Grove, Wisconsin, as follows:
No person shall kindle or cause to be kindled any fire in or upon any
street, alley, public way, park or any public or private property within
the Village except as follows:
A. Fires set for practice and instruction of firefighters or to test
firefighting equipment.
B. Burning small amounts of dry combustible rubbish such as paper,
cardboard and/or clean untreated wood in a secure place such as a
burning pit or barrel on property owner’s premises, excluding wet
combustible rubbish, such as wet cardboard or paper and garbage, oily
substance such as oily or greasy rags, oil filters, etc., asphalt such
as asphalt shingles or tar paper, plastics or any kind including plastic
bottles and plastic bags, or rubber products including tires and hoses,
or any other substances producing a malodorous emission under Wis. Adm.
Code NR 429.03(2). Permitted burning to be between the hours of 4:00
p.m. and 12:00 midnight.
C. Leaf burning and burning of dry plant clippings and brush is
permitted as long as weather conditions do not pose a fire hazard.

D. There shall be no open burning within 20 feet of any building or
structure, except secure backyard firepits and bar-b-que grills.
E. Persons found in violation of this
ordinance shall be subject to a forfeiture as follows:
$25.00 plus Court costs, for the first offense; $50.00 plus Court
costs, for the second offense within a 5 year period; and $100.00
plus Court costs, for the third offense and thereafter within a 5
year period.
This Ordinance shall take effect and be in full force from and after
the date of its passage and posting as provided by law.
